The story of its special emblem began in 1263, when Colin Of Kintail, leader of the Mackenzie Clan, rescued the King of Scotland, Alexander III, by killing a stag that had attacked him. As a reward, the king gave the Colin of Kintail the emblem of the stag with 12 horns, an emblem that adorns the bottle to this day.

With the main ingredient being the water of a lake at an altitude of 600 meters, Dalwhinnie brings with it an aura of fresh air and herbs. Its name is inspired by the location of the distillery as it means "meeting point" and the distillery is located where the Lowlands and the Western Highlands meet.
