Balvenie 12 Year Old Doublewood whiskey was created by Malt Master David Stewart who designed the process in 1982. Whiskeys mature for at least 12 years in oak and ex-bourbon barrels before being transferred to ex-sherry Spanish barrels for 9 months. Then they all go together in large pots or tuns as they are called for 4 months.
