The town of Bowmore was founded in 1768 and just 11 years later, in 1779, the first legal distillery on the island of Islay became operational, under the supervision of David Simon. Bowmore 12 Year Old will mature for at least 12 years in ex-sherry and ex-bourbon barrels, which will give it its special aromas and amber color.
