In 1827 George Ballantine set up a small grocery store in Edinburgh, selling a wide range of different whiskeys to his customers. In 1865 he handed over the shop to his son, as he opened a larger shop in Glasgow, where he focused more on drinks and wines, while also starting his own blends.

Balvenie 12 Year Old Doublewood whiskey was created by Malt Master David Stewart who designed the process in 1982. Whiskeys mature for at least 12 years in oak and ex-bourbon barrels before being transferred to ex-sherry Spanish barrels for 9 months. Then they all go together in large pots or tuns as they are called for 4 months. There, the flavors and aromas of all the barrels will be married before they are bottled so that this excellent single malt whiskey will come to us.
