The history of the Sancerre vineyards goes back almost a thousand years, in the 11th and 12th centuries when monks in the surrounding areas began to cultivate vines. Chateau de Sancerre is located in the heart of the Sancerre vineyards. In 1874, the chateau was rebuilt on its old site in the style of Louis XII.

Today Chateau de Sancerre is still owned by Societe des Produits Marnier-Lapostolle, also producers of Grand Marnier liqueur and owners of Chateau de Bourg Charente. Here, in the heart of its historic birthplace, an exclusive Sancerre wine is made and matured, bottled on estates and is the only wine that can be sold under the exclusive name "Chateau de Sancerre".
