Taketsuru Pure Malt is a label dedicated to Nikka Whisky founder Masataka Taketsuru. In 1918 Masataka Taketsuru, the son of a well-known sake producer, visited Scotland to learn the secrets of whiskey production. There he married his muse, as he called her, Rita Cowan. Two years later he returned to Japan and in 1924 built the first Japanese distillery for his then employer. In 1934, at the urging of his wife, he created his own distillery and started making high quality whisky.

The Chita Suntory Whiskey comes to us from the Chita distillery, built in 1972 by master blender Keizo Saji, off the coast of Chita Peninsula and is one of the most famous distilleries in Japan.
