Citadelle Gin was created when the owner of Cognac Ferrand, Alexander Gabriel, was the one who petitioned the cognac council to allow him to use the same vats for gin production. He did this because the AOC legislation allows the production of cognac only 6 months of the year and so the other 6 people were out of work.

With the Citadelle Reserve, Maison Ferrand celebrated the rebirth of the golden gin. The distillery has been producing various schnapps since 1912, created from trees in the Eggenertal valley. From these trees they will create this wonderful label in the family distillery, which untill today counts three generations of distillers.

Edmond Abius may have been born a slave, but at the age of 12 he discovered something that changed the cultivation of the vanilla orchid, after he found that he could make it pollinated by hand with a blade of grass.
