Amaretto il Nostro Dolce liqueur is produced in Venice, Italy and is based on apricots or almonds, or sometimes both. The name Amaretto il Nostro Dolce comes from the Italian word "amaro" which means "bitter", denoting the characteristic taste of bitter almond. However, the bitterness is not unpleasant and the taste is enhanced by sweeteners and sometimes sweet almonds. The name of the liqueur can be said to describe the taste as "a little bitter".

Averna Amaro was created in 1868 for Salvatore Averna, by the monks of San Spirito Abbey in Caltanissetta and is the first officially recognized, drink of Sicily. Averna Amaro secret recipe has been passed down from generation to generation, while each of its production phases is strictly controlled in order to guarantee the authenticity of the ingredients and the high quality of the product. It is still produced in Sicily today with the same procedures and of course the same secret recipe.
